On July 1, the sixth session of the summer course, , was held. Professor Yongmin Kim introduced British politics and society through the lens of Brexit and its lasting impact on the United Kingdom’s domestic politics and international relations. Students examined the historical roots of British Euroscepticism, the causes and consequences of the 2016 Brexit referendum, and the political, economic, and constitutional challenges that have emerged since the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.

The lecture also explored the political instability that has characterized post-Brexit Britain, including frequent changes of prime ministers, the transformation of the party system, the rise of Reform UK, and the challenges faced by both the Conservative and Labour parties. Students discussed how Brexit reshaped British politics and contributed to broader debates on governance, national identity, and the future of the United Kingdom.

In addition, the session examined Britain’s evolving relationship with the United States and Europe in the context of changing global security dynamics. Students analyzed the enduring importance of the UK–US "special relationship," Europe’s pursuit of strategic autonomy, and Britain’s efforts to redefine its role between Washington and Brussels after Brexit. Through these discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the United Kingdom as it adapts to a changing international environment.
